New Study: Cough Syrups Don't Work

Good news for all of you who like to hit the Robotussin when you're out of Midori - the "medicine" in Syrup the stuff won't affect you! MSN and other news sources are highlighting new guidelines released by the American College of Chest Physicians (I know what you're thinking, and no, she's not their spokesperson), which indicate that popular OTC remedies have little to no effect on coughs. Naturally, the Cough Medicine Lobby is not pleased - the Consumer Healthcare Products Association is quoted in the MSN story as disagreeing with the findings (surprise, surprise!), citing the fact that millions of consumers buy the stuff and claim it works.

Of interest to dads - the group states that children under the age of 14 should not be given over-the-counter cough and cold medications. The group, apparently using my mother as a consultant, states that chicken soup and lots of fluids can be helpful in easing the discomfort of a standard cold-induced cough.

So what's your take on this? Is Vicks Formula 44D as effective as Jagermeister?
