Girls [May or May Not] Rule!
As much as my wife hopes our daughter will follow in her big sister's foot steps as a girly-girl diva princess, all signs point to man-girl. I'm not kidding. She's about as feminine as Burl Ives. There are no ribbons in her hair, no cute dresses and no cutesy shoes. This is all her choice, of course. She just refuses this girly stuff.
It first started with her love of all things Home Depot. A trip there is as good as Disneyland in her book and the money I save on the bloated admission price finds a happy home in my kick-ass toolbox - which is a wonderful perk. Of course, all my tools are used to wrench on my Harley, so, logic dictates that she'd develop an affinity for my motorcycle. And she has. Why, just this past weekend, she brought her tricycle in to the garage and worked on her bike while I worked on mine. She banged a screwdriver around on it and eventually gave me the heads up "Done bike fix, Daddy!" (Cute alert: She made a special trip inside to grab a Band-aid for my bike, as I had told her it had an owie and that was why I was fixing it. It's still on my tail light.)
She then moved on to Bob The Builder diapers. No more Dragon Tales, Pooh or Dora diapers for her. Nope. It's diapers made for penises and nothing else. Yes, they leak. She then demanded a full set of Thomas the Tank Engine toys because…well…nothing screams estrogen like a locomotive. She grew tired of those quickly though when she discovered that Bob had a toy set of trucks and cranes to match her diapers. We bought them and now she's basically playing general contractor in the sandbox. I could go on and on with this stuff, but, I think you get the point.
So, we may have a tomboy on our hands or…gasp!...a Peppermint Patty. Regardless, I'm cool with it since I love her unconditionally, of course. Besides, it'd be nice to have someone to throw the football around with. However, stepping back and taking a good look at the situation, maybe it's just that this all stems from her having a big old crush on her Daddy. And that is something I'm definitely cool with.
