We make no secret of our love for Yo Gabba Gabba. Face it – any kids show that features The Aggrolites and The Roots is worth a grownup’s time. The show has been on for two seasons, and has become a favorite among parents and critics alike for its blend of sweet, goofy weirdness and awesome special guests.

The reruns.

They were becoming…tedious. The kids, of course, love the show, but watching the same episodes over and over and over again. We were at some kiddie Hotel California, DJ Lance was the night man, and we could never leave. The party in our tummies, it never ended.

But! New episodes started entering the rotation a couple of weeks ago; the show airs daily at 1:00, 1:30, and for the dorm room crowd (remember to stuff a towel in the doorjam, kids! The RA has a nose like a Customs dog!) 10:30 PM on Nick Jr. In addition to the aforementioned Roots (still awesome despite being Jimmy Fallon’s backing band) guests included Andy Samberg, Biz Markie, skateboarder Ray Barbee, and musicians Reeve Oliver, Lady Tigra, and Little Ones. And a new CD, Yo Gabba Gabba – Music Is Awesome! has hit the stores. The good people at Yo Gabba Gabba were kind enough to send me (and ONE OF YOU LUCKY READERS – more on that in a sec) a copy, and it’s great – in addition to tracks from the show’s regular characters, the album features original songs by Of Montreal, The Shins, Mark Kozelek, I’m From Barcelona, and The Roots. (If I have a bone to pick, it’s that the CD does not include The Aggrolites’ cover of “Banana”, one of the show’s best moments.)

And! Yo Gabba Gabba will be playing a few select LIVE dates; the There’s A Party In My City tour will visit L.A., New York, and Chicago. Details and tickets can be found here.

So, Hipster Parentdom, you can all breathe a sigh of relief. More Yo Gabba Gabba is here. And here’s where you get to have a bit o’ fun. Like I said, we have a copy of the new Yo Gabba Gabba CD to giveaway. But you have to work for it. In the comments, tell us what band or musician you’d like to see on the show. We’ll pick the most interesting choice (no promises that your act will appear; we’re not that powerful) and send the winner the CD. We’ll announce the winner this Friday at noon PST.
